Frank Stone - The Great Escape
On Monday 5th March Uniformed Public Services had a talk/presentation from Frank Stone. He is 89 years old. He is one of the last survivors from the great escape. It was very interesting to hear a account from a person who was actually there.
This is a picture of Frank when he was 18 years old and a traniee navigator.
He eventually ended up in Sagan StalagLuft III - the camp made renowned in the classic war movie “The Great Escape”. One of the infamous three tunnels, Tom, Dick and Harry, was dug from the hut in which Frank was billeted.
For the past thirty years Frank has been sharing his experiences of the camp, explaining how they planned and achieved everything and telling of his own part in the greatest escape story of the Second World War.

We have recently been to the Peak District as a residential for 2and a half days. It was to cover some of the criteria for Outdoor Expeditions and Leadership.
First day - When we arrived we had to set up our tents and equipment. We then went out on a walk and half way on the walk we did a bit of climbing.
Second day - We got prepared to go for a 14 mile walk to Chatsworth House and back. When we got there we did Raft Building which was a great activity. This helped our teams to bond well.
Last day - We did not do much on this day. We packed all of our equipment and tents up.

Road Traffic Collision
On the 17th January we were involved in a reconstruction of a road traffic collision outside the main entrance at Chesterfield College. It involved two cars which had collided into each other. Our job, was marshaling different locations within the College. The tasks ranged from diverting smokers to smoking areas, directing traffic etc. This was a great opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding for the unit 'Responding to Emergency Services'.
The picture above shows how the emgerncy services were dealing with the incident.

What I have been up to recently.
Recently while I have been studying many events have been done.
In December 2010 we had a inter sports competition. This is where all of the groups on the uniformed public services course compete in different competitions. The events included drill, fitness, crime scene investigation and many more. We also had to dress in fancy dress, and our group decided to go dressed in pyjammes. It was a very fun day.
On 18th january 2011 we were told to go to Clown College. We really didn't know what we were going to do. All we knew was we were doing something with the police. When we got there and were formed up outside of the astro turf when we saw an car hi jacking. Little did we know we were going to be interviewd about this event as we were the witnessess.

Linnet Clough
I have recently been on an induction camp with the Chesterfield College Unformed Public services team. The induction camp was held at a scout site , at Linnet Clough.
The camp itself was very challenging, both physically and mentially. For example we only had about 5 hours of sleep a night and were out running at 6:30 am !!!
The induction camp involved many activites including physical training, lots of drill, SKITS ( where we had to entertain the staff with our role plays and our performence of a song.), the night ex and many more.
Overall looking back on how I think I did. I think I did well to fit in with the routine. I am quite a disciplined person before I went to Linnet but going to Linnet helped me to expand it even more. This was because we had to work as a team to clean our rooms and showers, sort out our kit to make it to a good standard.
To achieve this we all had to have a good level of self discipline as we would have not been able to do this if we didn't have it. This was because we were doing this at 11pm and doing this at that time was not wasy at all! Espically when you knew you had to be up for 6am the next morning.
Throughout this camp I put 100% effort into everything I did, and I got the result I wanted. I am very pleased with passing Linnet Clough.
